Common Sense Weight Loss
Whether you are trying to get into shape, need to drop a few pounds to fit your jeans or are
seriously overweight, it is very important to follow a plan which is based on common sense weight loss.
It's all too easy to get obsessed with everything you put into your mouth, and to feel as if you
have failed if you slip up or go out somewhere and have no choice but to eat something which you know you
shouldn't..
Why Don't We Follow Common Sense Weight Loss Plans?
Even though there is plenty of information out there about weight loss, people are still making the same diet
mistakes every single day.
By that I don't mean tiny slipups where you eat a chocolate bar which was definitely not on the menu, but
some of the bigger mistakes that can cause you to fail to lose the weight you so much want to get rid of. Gaining
insight into these mistakes will help you develop the right attitude, that is, one which will lead to long-term
weight loss.
Are You an All or Nothing Dieter?
All or nothing slimmers often choose a diet which is complicated and therefore almost impossible
to stick to. Before starting, they will clear the cupboards, chucking out anything that does not belong in their
new diet.. Their intention is to be the perfect slimmer, and they will succeed for a day or perhaps as much as a
week or two. Then, the inevitable happens, something unexpected crops up and they can't stick to the diet one
lunchtime.
Immediately they take this to mean that the whole diet is ruined . So they think there is no
point in continuing and then go and stock up on all the junk they got rid of when they started. And of course,
all the good work is undone and the weight piles right back on again.
If this sounds like you, you need a large dose of common sense! Don't try to be a perfectionist.
Life happens and chances are, one "bad" meal choice won't make any difference as long as you go back to your
common sense weight loss plan afterwards.
Eating a Healthy Diet for Common Sense Weight Loss

Exercise is Part of a Common Sense Weight Loss Plan
If you focus just on diet, you are leaving out one of the main components of common sense
weight
loss- exercise. You don't have to join a gym but you do have to get your body moving, even just
a little bit more than you do at present. It's important to check with your doctor before beginning to exercise,
but there are plenty of everyday activities which can incorporate movement and help with weight loss.
For example, you can walk short distances where you previously took the car or bus, you can
climb the stairs instead of taking the lift. You can get off the bus or underground train a couple of stops
early when going to work or coming home in the evening.
Start out slowly and build up gradually and as long as you follow your doctor's advise regarding
the type and frequency of exercise you should soon start to see results. Don't expect miracles, remember that
slow and steady weight loss is much more likely to produce lasting results.
As an added benefit, you'll find that exercising makes you feel better, both physically
and mentally and when you feel better, it's much easier to stick to your diet plan. Adding two or three 10
minute exercise sessions to your daily routine isn't all that difficult.
Keep away From Temptation As Much as Possible
Of course you can't stop eating and so you can't avoid being exposed to food, but you should try
to minimize the amount of exposure you get to the wrong kind of food. With so much junk food on sale everywhere,
this isn't always easy, but there are a few strategies you can implement to make it less difficult.
Plan your trip to the supermarket – you probably know where the
vegetables, fruit and lean fish and meat are. So head for those shelves and avoid the biscuits, cakes etc. I
know, supermarkets have a habit of moving things around, which is very annoying. When that happens, ask a shop
assistant – if you walk around looking for what you want, you are sure to find yourself facing forbidden
foods.
Get family members to support your weight loss campaign. If they need to lose a
few pounds, encourage them to join in, but if not, ask them to eat snacks when you aren't around. Get them to do
their own shopping for sugary and fatty snacks. If your kids are too young to go shopping, restrict the amount
of unhealthy food that is coming in to the house. You should be teaching them about healthy eating and so it's a
good idea to only allow the occasional junk food treats.
Avoid eating out or make sure you go somewhere that offers healthy
options. Explain to friends that you need their encouragement and support with your diet. If your friends try to
get you to eat junk when you are out, don't go out with them to eat or find some new friends.
Find some other dieters, through a club or exercise group and encourage each
other.
If you can't find a group, put up an ad in your local community centre or church.
Most of these common sense weight loss tips are free and not too difficult. Take
them one at a time and you'll soon be feeling that you are taking positive action.
