EFT
- Emotional Freedom Technique
Emotional Freedom
Technique (EFT) is a simple but effective method of dealing
with a wide range of physical and emotional problems, including
cravings related to weight gain and also addiction to nicotine.
Using acupuncture points, it involves tapping on the body to
release blocks.
The basic belief
behind EFT is that all of our negative emotions are a
result of a disruption in the energy system. And by clearing
these blocks, we can get rid of the negative emotions which
are the root cause of problems such as overeating or addiction
to cigarettes. Eft for weight
loss and eft to stop smoking are providing many people with
an effective alternative to more traditional methods.
So how does it work?
In the meridian network - the channels used in acupuncture -
energy can become blocked, disturbing the flow between one meridian
and the next. An acupuncturist can't diagnose energy blocks
by looking at the patient's symptoms. Blocks can only be detected
by taking the patient's pulses.
This is not the same
as taking the radial pulse in western medicine, but involves
feeling 12 different pulses in the wrists, each corresponding
to one of the main meridians, a skill which takes years of practice.
Each meridian is connected by entry and exit points and if a
block is found, it can be cleared using needles in the entry
and exit points of the relevant meridians. The improved energy
flow can be felt by taking the pulses again. This technique
should result in some relief from symptoms.
However, EFT allows
us to do the same thing without needles and usually with immediate
results. Although it is possible to be guided through an EFT
session with a practitioner - either in person or on the phone,
anyone can carry out EFT by themselves.
